Why the Tropics

More than 40 % of the world’s 4 Billion hectares of forests are located in the tropics, covering between 1.2 and 1.8 Billion hectares of land; tropical forests store 60% of global carbon content. During 2021, 3.8 Million hectares of tree loss occurred in tropical primary forests, releasing 2.5 Billion metric tons of greenhouse gases (GHG). &Green targets the tropics because this region has the greatest natural climate mitigation potential. As of 31 December 2022, &Green has cleared three tropical jurisdictions for investment: Vietnam, Zambia and Lao.
